Genetics: Overview

The purpose of this module is to introduce topics of developmental disorders that result from chromosomes, genetics, and environment during pregnancy and after birth. The resources provided in this module are intended for use of professional developmental trainings, and courses for in-service educators. The topics discussed are Chromosome Deletions, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD), Fragile X Syndrome (FXS), and Joubert Syndrome. The materials in the module can (and are encouraged to) be adapted.

Objectives

After engaging with these resources, IHE faculty and PD providers will be able to:

  • Identify learner outcomes specific to chromosome deletions, fetal alcohol spectrum disorders, Fragile X syndrome, and Joubert syndrome.
  • Identify high-quality resources to integrate into higher education curriculum and or professional development content.
  • Use a variety of adult learning strategies to engage students/trainees in learning from these resources.
