Evidence-Based Practices for Young Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder
This presentation introduces educators and clinicians to the 28 research-validated interventions identified by the National Professional Development Center on Autism Spectrum Disorder. Each practice—such as Antecedent-Based Intervention, Naturalistic Intervention, Functional Communication Training, and Visual Supports—is defined with links to AFIRM learning modules and guidance on relevant developmental domains. The presentation promotes hands-on facilitator activities and encourages practitioners to select, teach, and monitor interventions suited to young children with ASD. Emphasizing family collaboration, structured learning environments, and data-informed strategies, it provides a foundation for designing effective, individualized supports that foster communication, play, and social engagement in early childhood settings.
